5 Events You Don’t Want To Miss At VFringe 2016

The Isle of Wight’s unique celebration of all things creative, Ventnor Fringe Festival, returns to the sunny seaside town between 9th and 14th August, featuring some of the country’s finest musicians. Due its popularity, the Fringe now takes place alongside the all-new Ventnor International Festival, bringing some of the world’s musical talents to the shores of the Isle of Wight. We’ve broken down the programme to just five events we feel you can’t afford to miss…

The Chalkpit Rubble Club, Tuesday 9th August, 8pm, Secret Venue.

Celebrating the love of music across unique venues on the Isle of Wight, the very first Rubble Club will take place on the opening night of the Ventnor Fringe Festival. Hosted by Chalkpit Records, the event will feature performances from RHAIN, who will be playing alongside members of Plastic Mermaids, Chalkpit Records’ very own Nakamarra and solo artist Swan Levitt. At just £5 a ticket, you’re always guaranteed a good night at a Chalkpit Records event.

Tim Arnold & Special Guests, Thursday 11th August, 7.30pm, St Catherine’s Church.

We don’t like to be bias, but our very own Luke Joynes and Fret-Buzz Music Magazine are joining forces to bring critically acclaimed London musician Tim Arnold to St Catherine’s Church on Thursday 11th August, and it simply had to go on this list. As well as being a regular at the Isle of Wight Festival, Tim has appeared on The Voice UK, supported Wet Wet Wet and has worked alongside the likes of Stephen Fry and Benedict Cumberbatch, campaigning for venues in the Soho area. He will be supported on the night by Portsmouth acoustic stars Marley Blandford and Devin-Jade, with all profits from the event going to WellChild UK. Just going to drop this link here:

Go on… you know you want to!

Tim Arnold will be performing at VFringe on Thursday 11th August.

The Free Fringe Showcase With Jack Pout, Friday 12th August, Parkside, Time 6.30pm.

Hosted by BBC Folk Award nominated Jack Pout, the Free Fringe Showcase brings together a hand-picked selection of musicians, with 100% of the ticket sales going back to the performers. Taking place in the new Parkside area, the line-up will feature rising stars Company B, Freja Watts, Miles Goodall, Ever and The Howls.

The Blind Mole’s Ball With Boogie Belgique, Saturday 13th August, The Vaults, 10pm.

Following a sell out performance at the Ventnor Fringe in 2015, this year Boogie Belgique returns as a full live band show with incredible visuals and new rooms opened up within the underground vaults. Boogie Belgique is the recording name of young Belgian producer Oswald Cromheecke who uses old jazz and swing samples to create new sounds. Ventnor’s unique late night party is where it’s at on the Saturday night of the Fringe!

Dizraeli, Sunday 14th August, Secret Venue, 6pm.

As part of the Ventnor International Festival programme, multi-instrumentalist and rapper Dizraeli is returning to Ventnor, with support from Toby Thompson. After six years pushing boundaries with his band Dizraeli & The Small Gods, winning the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, receiving regular radio play and spellbinding crowds at festivals across Europe, Dizraeli left the band last year to explore new possibilities. His secret set at Ventnor this August marks a rare opportunity for fans to see an intimate performance of his solo show.
